Events and Happenings in Los Alamos
There are several annual events that bring people out into the streets and green spaces to celebrate. There is an annual rodeo, festival, and fair, that typically kicks off at the end of July with the "Queen's Court Horse Show" and continuing mid August with music, the arts & crafts show, rodeo events, pool tournaments, a parade, and many more. In addition, there is a spring arts and crafts fair in May.
During the growing season, there is a weekly Farmers' Market every Thursday, adjacent to the Mesa Public Library in Los Alamos. Farmers from many adjacent communities bring their produce which is fresh and tasty. Chili is a popular commodity - it comes in a variety of degrees of "hotness" to suite everyone's palate.

Concerts at Ashley Pond are part of the summer tradition of Los Alamos. They are organized by Russ Gordon, a local entrepreneur. Hundreds of people of all ages come out to hear the music, and sample the food from several vendors who market their unique specialities.
Homecoming for the 'Toppers (Los Alamos Hilltoppers) is usually celebrated sometime after school reconvenes following the summer vacation. It is accompanied by a colorful parade; the children love to come out to collect candy...

Haloween is another time for the kids to come downtown, where the local merchants get together to provide them with treats.

Around December 1, the trees around Ashley Pond are decorated and lit at night. This spectacular scene is also preceded by a parade.
